Karen Mankins earned her associate degree in nursing from Maurine Church Coburn School of Nursing in 1995 and has been a registered nurse living and working in Monterey county for over 40 years. Karen hs worked in many different setting from acute care to Hospice home health. A born caregiver, Karen found her nursing niche early on in geriatrics and recently was the RN administrator for an assisted living facility in Monterey county.
In 2013, Karen's career changed forever when she was approached by a patient's daughter who had a special request: she wanted her mother to drop narcotics in favor of a natural pain relieving alternative--medical cannabis. Witnessing her patients's relief of getting off opioids and other numerous medication marked a turning point in Karen's career. After witnessing her other residents using cannabis successfully and the tremendous need for education, she started her own consulting business, Restoring Health Naturally. "This has been the most amazing years in my nursing career, I'm witnessing patients' quality of lives improve every day."
Karen has becomes a dedicated medical cannabis advocate. She has been a member of the American Cannabis Nursing Association since 2014. As a distinguished leader in her field, Karen has given lectures on cannabis use in seniors at the Stanford School of Medicine, Dominican University, the Carmel Foundation, the San Francisco Bay Area Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association, Carmel Valley Manor, The Parkland, Maurine Church Coburn School of Nursing, Monterey Rotary, and many other organizations.
She will be educating us on our endocannabinoid system; how cannabis works and its side effects; the what, where, when, how and why of cannabis products; how to use them safely; and the setting of goals for cannabis use.
