The Foundation is a nonprofit public benefit corporation (EIN 46-2606323) founded in 2013, and organized exclusively for the purposes of providing education scholarships to women who reside in the Carmel Valley, to support organizations with tax exempt status that promote the welfare of Carmel Valley resident and families, and to respond to an immediate regional community emergency. We conduct a major fundraising event in April.
Our philanthropy policy is set and reviewed annually by the Foundation Board and two committees: the Community Allocation Committee and the Scholarship Committee. These committees select and recommend distributions to local nonprofits and for scholarship awards. These are presented at a June awards luncheon. A new focus within the policy on Community Relief was established in 2015 to quickly address emergency situation with funds through an appropriate local nonprofit; nominations may be given to Foundation directors for board consideration at any time.
Organizations receiving funds for a community work or emergency relief must be eligible under IRS tax codes 501(c)(3) and Section 170(c)(2).
