A Message from our President

valentines_header.png

For 77 years The Carmel Valley Women’s Club has contributed significantly to the well-being of our local community through our Scholarships and Community Grants. Nevertheless, I think we can do much more!

Most of us have had the benefit of a good education and chose to live here in a little slice of paradise.  We all place tremendous value on the community we have here in Carmel Valley. However, if we want to sustain our community we need educated, civic-minded residents with drive and talent. That’s why scholarships are such an important investment for all of us. To understand the impact you can have on our community, please read the testimonials from our scholarship winners, compiled by Linda Smutz, Chair of the Scholarship Committee.

Our Annual Member Appeal and Fundraising for the Hoedown are being combined.

By focusing on the Hoedown as the CVWC signature fundraising event we can target a much wider audience than just our club members. As well, we want to offer our members recognition for the support they provide.

We developed Donation Tiers to encourage local businesses to become donors or sponsors of the event. But we have a lot of committed philanthropists in our own club, (91% of members in our 2025 survey!) and these details and benefits apply just as much to individuals or families as they do to commercial organizations.

If you, your family, family foundation or business believes in the benefits of further education for Carmel Valley women, (future value for ALL of us here in Carmel Valley!), please consider becoming a donor or sponsor our Hoedown.  You will be recognized on our website, in our Newsletters, with a Member Profile, and on a banner at the Hoedown.  Or you can remain mysteriously anonymous! Here is a link to the Giving Tiers.

Fondly, Brenda

Thank you, Linda Smutz, Courtney Brady, and Katie Read, Sherie Dodsworth with Judy Tschirgi and Brenda Davis. This team has developed a far-reaching Marketing Campaign that will use radio spots; other organizations’ newsletters & websites; postcard mailers; social media; and local signage such as posters, banners and H style yard signs.

2026 March Luncheon

The March Luncheon found us in a new venue, the Carmel Valley Mount Carmel Catholic Church’s Meeting Hall.  With amazing table centerpieces from Katia Barrett, Conne Sutherland’s organizational and decorating expertise, lovely wine and Arnold Palmers (care of Conne) and the always super Woody’s catering, the luncheon was both beautiful and delicious.

Our speaker, author Meg Waite Clayton started the event by signing purchased copies of her latest book, Typewriter Beach, helpfully supplied by Kelsey Boyle of Olivia and Daisy Bookstore.  Then, following our lunch and President Brenda Davis’ announcements and exhortation to purchase Hoedown tickets, Meg talked about her writing.  Always a reader, (and a writer of poetry in High School), Meg first had a career as a corporate M&A lawyer before embarking on her literary career in historical fiction.  She described her process of deep research of topics with which she has become “obsessed”.  She lives for a month in the book location; she studies the time period and historical figures as well as artifacts of the time.  And then she uses a technique of quickly brainstorming her ideas for the books onto bits of paper and arranging them in various orders prior to create the book structure.  It was a fascinating look into the mind of a writer.

Our members were very generous with their raffle ticket purchases, and we collected $435 for our Foundation. (Hurray!) Deb Langley provided a lovely spring basket for the raffle, and Katia’s centerpieces were raffled off as well.  Our winners were Desi Gillingham (the basket AND a centerpiece) and Suzanne Bohan, Sandy Day, Kathleen Tarp and Sherie Dodsworth (centerpieces).

See you at the Hoedown!
